Adopt A Horse - Meet Our Rescues
Please keep in mind adopters need to live in an area of Texas or bordering states where volunteers are available to do the initial site inspection and follow-up visits. We currently have no site inspectors in far east Texas or areas near Mexico. According to our adoption policies, most adoptions are final in two years. The horses cannot ever be sold, but can be given away to someone who meets our adoption criteria. Otherwise, horses must be returned to the rescue in the event they can no longer be cared for. To view more pictures of our rescues, click on their name. For information on adopting any of these horses email headquarters@user.org.

USESR Hours of Operation Are:
By appointment only; open 7 days a week.
Closed: sometimes.

Swish

"Swish Highway" is her registered name. Foaled February 6, 2000, Swish is sound and fully broke to ride. A beautiful bay whom our vet called, "An outstanding example of her breed's characteristics", our exceptional Standardbred mare stands a majestic 16 hands high and is built for the speed you need! If you are looking for a hunter/jumper, barrel racer, or other speed oriented sport, and are an intermediate rider with a solid seat, or are an experienced rider, please consider giving Swish the permanent, loving home she deserves. Swish is recovering from a leg injury which has not affected her soundness. She is not on medication, nor does she require bandaging.
Swish's adoption fee is $950.00. She is currently located in Bridgeport, Texas, and needs a foster or adoptive home.

Bounce Weaver

Bounce is a 19 year old Thoroughbred gelding. Jocky Club registered, he is a retired race horse and dressage horse. His arthritis is too far advanced for anyone to ride him. He needs a joint supplement year round and suffers very mild bouts of colic at any time, for any reason. He has done this as often as every other day until a one-time probiotic was administered. His tummy ache went away and his appetite returned immediately. The sad truth about horses like Bounce Weaver, (who got his last name because of his personality-read about it on his 'Photos' page by clicking on his name, above) is that they are extremely difficult to place. Strike one is his age; strike two is his gender; strike three is that he can't be ridden or used for any purpose. Horses like Bounce are perpetual care horses, whom USESR provides sanctuary to, for the rest of their days, however long that is. Bounce has been at USESR Intake for many years. He is happy here, but could be relocated. Bounce requires a foster or adoptive pasture with plenty of good grazing; he cannot hold his weight without it. While he is in Intake, he could sure use a sponsor. Please consider donating any amount to Bounce, a living tribute to what happens when horses are competed before their bodies finish developing.
Bounce's adoption fee is $150.00. He is located in Bridgeport, Texas.

Madison

Madison is a Comstock Mare, also known as "Virginia Range Horse". Her age is unknown; she stands appx. 14.3 to 15 hands high. She is sound, healthy and had begun to learn how to lead at one time. Madison has a sleek body style with 4 flashy white stockings and a big white spot under her mane. Madison needs to be in a home where she can be worked with gently for a few minutes, a few days a week. Horses who came to Texas with Madison, from her original herd, are already being ridden under saddle.
We are also offering a free two-year lease on Madison. Train her for a year and ride her for a year, then adopt her if its a good match! You can terminate your lease at any time. What have you got to lose? Madison is only losing time, so get started today! Contact USESR and inquire about Madison.
Madison's adoption fee is $75.00. She is located in Bridgeport, Texas. Madison is also available for a 2-year "free lease", the details of which are outlined on her photo page.

Prince

Prince is a beautiful Palomino gelding, foaled in January of 2005. We rescued Prince from auction when he was just 6 months old, hoping to fix his deformed leg, but the vet said it was too late- the surgery to clip his tendon should have been done at birth. The tendon in Prince's left front leg did not grow with the rest of his body. It's in the back of his leg, so the front part of his leg grows normally and the back doesn't grow much at all. This caused his foot to curl under, so that he walks on the part of his hoof from coronet (where the hair stops) to toe (tip of the hoof). He also has a parrot mouth (severely buck-toothed). Prince is a happy, healthy, bouncing baby boy with only one bad habit- quietly inserting himself into your business! He loves to run, jump, play and kick up his heels in an expression of glee. He's a very happy camper! He's not spooky or jumpy. He doesn't bite or kick. If not for the intial neglect of his birth defect, and a little dental problem, he'd be the perfect horse for anyone to ride. Now, he's just the perfect horse for anyone to love.
Prince's adoption fee is $200.00. Currently being fostered in Gainesville, Texas.

Natasha

(click on her name; her photo page is completed)
Natasha is an Arabian mare standing 14.1 hands high. With her soft, glowing mane and a sorrel body that shines like a new penny, this 20+ year old mare is the picture of health! Among her human friends, Natasha is a sweet, quiet, cooperative mare. She is easy to catch, lead,..whatever you want her to do, except ride. Natasha has probably been ridden for only ten minutes in the past ten years. She was ridden briefly by a teenage boy last summer. We are adopting her out as being potentially broke to ride. She is sound and healthy and maintains a healthy roundness on normal pelleted feed. We would like to see Natasha used in lead line classes; she is gentle enough for a small child to handle, and she should be able to be ridden lightly by a light rider. Natasha needs a foster or adoptive home.
Natasha's adoption fee is $75.00. Currently located in Bridgeport, Texas.

Kitty's Bandita

Kitty is a part-Arab mare in her mid-20's. She is a calm mare, well schooled in ground manners, easy to catch, and loves treats! Kitty is not broke to ride. She would make a nice companion mare. Kitty is not on a special diet, nor is she on any supplements. Kitty is easy to catch. She's never had a human friend, but would like the chance to get to know one. She is hoping for a foster or adoptive home.
Kitty's adoption fee is $75.00. She is located in Bridgeport, Texas.

Cinnabon

Cinnabon is a sorrel pony mare, standing 12 hands high. She has been foundered and her hooves were terribly neglected when Wise County Animal Control called the United States Equine Sanctuary & Rescue and asked if we could take in 3 horses that a local resident, down on luck, wanted to surrender. She has been foundered and although she was trimmed, she still has some difficulty walking. She is otherwise sound and healthy. Since this photo was taken, Cinny has gained all of her weight and has been placed in a foster home.
Cinnabon's adoption fee is $50.00. She is located in Bridgeport, Texas.

Chilli

Chilli is a 20 year old gelding who has severe bone spurs in both of his knees. Because of the severety of the bone spurs, he can never be ridden. Chilli is an easy keeper, not on any special medication. He needs a foster or adoptive home where he can graze and just be a horse.
Chilli's adoption fee is $75.00. He is currently located in Sherman, Texas.

Cobalt

Cobalt is a jet-black Thoroughbred gelding, approximately 30 years old. Cobalt is said to have, "come off the track", but at such an advanced age, that must have been many moons ago. Cobalt is broke to ride, but his hip joints pop when he moves, so a vet has stated that he should not be ridden.
Chilli's adoption fee is $75.00. He is located in Sherman, Texas.

As you see by the information on this page, our adoption fees do not come close to covering the costs of rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing ongoing care for any of the horses. Each one is so precious; each has his or her own unique personality. Each has a love and appreciation for life, expressed back to us as love and appreciation. Horses know when they are with people who care about them. They know when they've been saved, just as they know when they have suffered. Our efforts extend beyond horses, to the caring people who donate their equine to us so that we can place them in safe, loving, healthy homes for life. These people value the lives of their horses over money. Their only concern is for this dear loved one. Most donated horses are adopted out successfully, but not all of them. Finding a home for horses like Chilli (severely crippled) or Bounce Weaver (chronic colic) is next to impossible. It is our great privilege to provide love and care for these horses, for the rest of their lives. We are committed to the permanent safety of each and every equine that enters our program, but we must have your help! The United States Equine Sanctuary & Rescue is a publicly supported charitable organization. We exist as an extension of your goodwill.
