Featured Horse For Adoption: Comic Invitation!

Comic Invitation in Profile! Comic Invitation had a promising show career ahead of him until a freak accident punctured a hole in his face. Registered App, enrolled in the Appaloosa Breeders Trust through 2009, sound and healthy, but the injury has scarred him. Comic is looking for the perfect foster home to await adoption. We've set the adoption fee so low for this horse, it ought to be a crime! "Meet" Comic Invitation.

Latest Update on Anti-Slaughter Bills Before Congress

The anti-slaughter law has passed (been voted on and approved) in the House of Representatives! It is currently waiting to be voted on in the Senate, after which time it will go to the desk of the President to be signed into law, or vetoed (not signed into law). The days are running short and soon the Senate will go out of session and we may have to start all over again next year. The good news is, every year we get closer to our goal. Every year, more of our congressional representatives agree to vote in favor of our anti-slaughter bills. So far, our failure has been in being able to get our bills onto the House and Senate floors for a vote. In the mean time, since HR 503 passed, all 3 slaughterhouses have stepped up their efforts to kill as many horses as possible in the short time they may have left. Slaughter statistics have shot up in recent weeks, further denying the overpopulation problem, which bases its numbers solely upon the number of horses slaughtered in the U.S. Read more about the overpopulation myth on our 'slaughter' page.

In deepest sympathy...

This past Memorial Day weekend, we lost a true champion for the equine world. Trina Bellak, founder and president of the American Horse Defense Fund (AHDF), lost her long battle with the effects of breast cancer. She passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2006. In her true spirit, Trina fought to the end for the horses she so loved, pushing for legislative changes to protect them from the horrors of slaughter. AHDF and the horse community have lost a dedicated and passionate horsewoman and horse advocate, and we have all lost a friend. American Horse Defense Fund (www.ahdf.org)
