About United States Equine Sanctuary & Rescue

USESR was formed in 1998 and has been growing stronger and stronger since that time. We are an organization on the move and stay very busy doing cruelty investigations and placing Equine in adoptive homes. We also have many other branches of service supporting Equine, such as our Educational Division.

Our public speakers are educated people who are well qualified to speak to your school, civic club, radio station, television station, or be interviewed by reporters in print media.
If you have experience in public speaking and would feel comfortable in front of a camera or on the radio, then you are the kind of individual we are seeking to represent USESR in this volunteer capacity.

We are actively involved in the fight to outlaw horse slaughter entirely and invite you to get involved. As a member of USESR, your voice can be heard much louder when you write letters to lawmakers because you will be speaking on behalf of a well-known and powerful organization as well as a private citizen.

Your service as a Site Inspector is needed.
While we are a "big" rescue, we need you to help us inspect foster and adoptive homes. This is a safe level of Inspector and one in which you can plan your time for, unlike the Humane Investigator, who must be on call at all times and assume a certain amount of risk. Everyone starts out as a Foster or Adoptive Inspector, then moves up to Humane Investigator, if they so desire. A Foster or Adoptive Inspector must have a working knowledge of Equine or be willing to learn. A Humane Investigator must have knowledge of how to build a court case, gather evidence, and interrogate suspected abusers, or be willing to learn. The Humane Investigator will pass a State Humane Law test at the end of training, and then can go out on cruelty inspections alone.

Do you have room for one or two more horses?
If so, you could be eligible to become a Foster Care provider for us. Foster Care providers must be members of USESR in order to serve the Equine and members of the public who are seeking a special companion to love and care for, for life. A Foster Care provider contract is signed and the Provider agrees to supply adequate and nutritious feed and hay for the Equine. USESR pays for all worming, vaccinations, coggins tests, illnesses, and most accidents.

Volunteers enjoy the opportunity to socialize with others who are interested in helping Equine & other animals, such as our information booth at the Candlelight Vigil to spotlight homeless animals and animals killed in shelters each year. Meeting the public & informing them of the horrors of Premarin, circulating a petition to outlaw horse slaughter, and spotlighting the many other ways we help the human and Equine population is an uplifting and rewarding experience. We meet so many wonderful people, most of whom have a story of their own to tell us. Manning an information booth is always an enriching experience for volunteers and visitors alike.

If you are interested in joining a successful and well-established organization that is highly ethical and truly making a difference in horse's and people's lives, please contact Antoinette Smith by clicking on the "Contact Us" link on the left-hand side of this page, or call our toll free number and leave your name and mailing address.

And, as always, thank you for supporting horse rescue!
