Donation Policy

Section 1: All equine are eligible for donation with the following exceptions:

  1. Equine with cancer
  2. Equine with Equine Infectious Anemia

Section 2: Qualifications:

  1. Equine must have a negative coggins test that is less than three (3) weeks old at the time USESR takes physical possession of the equine.
  2. Persons making the donation must be the owner of the equine
  3. All owners of the donated equine must sign the donation contract
  4. The donation contract must be notarized
  5. There is a standard $200.00 donation fee, which may be altered at the discretion of the board of directors. Donation fees are waived for members of USESR if they donate their personal equine after they have been a member for at least two months; the equine has meets the qualifications in Sec. 1, Letter A, above; the equine is current on all vaccinations including West Nile Virus and Rabies; the equine is not in need of any medical care such as gelding or teeth floating; if the equine is lame and should be on supplements, said equine must be donated to USESR along with a minimum thirty (30) day supply of the proper supplement(s).
  6. Members who donate their equine cannot foster them.
  7. Other donation charges, such as a transport fee will still apply.

Section 3: Order of Steps:

  1. Donor communicates his/her desire to donate his/her equine to USESR.
  2. A Donation Contract is sent to the potential donor
  3. The donor makes sure the equine has a negative coggins test that is or will be less than three (3) weeks old at the time USESR takes possession of the equine.
  4. The donor fills out the donation contract, has it notarized and mailed to USESR headquarters in Bridgeport, Texas, along with any fees due.
  5. Arrangements are made for pick up or delivery of equine.

Section 4: Not Required:

  1. Current vaccinations
  2. Health Certificate

Section 5. Long Distance

  1. The treasurer must approve reimbursement in advance of pick up.
  2. USESR will reimburse certain expenses associated with picking up a donated equine.
